Here are a couple of pictures of a maple of some sort (Acer sp.) found in Jen's neighbor's yard. I just love the contrast caused by the carotenoid pigments concentrated around the vascular tissue. Interestingly, as seen in the second photo, the leaves turn yellow upon senescence.

My brother and his family have recently been visited by large flocks of waxwings, eating their crabapples and making a general mess of these. Clearly these are Bohemians and not Cedars.
